Episode 139: Behind the Scenes Conversations About Imposter Syndrome, Sustainable Business and Growing Your Email List

Made Remarkable Podcast (45) (2)

In this episode, I’m sharing the big shifts happening inside my business and community, a new format, a renewed creative spark, and the decision to bring you even closer to the behind-the-scenes process. I’ll tell you why I’m now releasing two podcast episodes a week, what I’m learning from returning to my own art practice, and why success as a course creator is never an overnight game. Plus, I’m bringing you insights straight from inside the Build It Remarkable community on battling imposter syndrome, building at a sustainable pace, and why your email list matters more than ever. This is a Work in Progress episode, and a loving invitation to keep moving forward, even when it’s messy.

Today, I want to get real with you about some of the honest behind-the-scenes conversations I’ve recently had inside my community. We’re talking:

  • Imposter syndrome (yep, even after years of success, it still creeps in)

  • Building a sustainable business (and not falling into burnout)

  • Why your email list is more valuable than gold (and how to actually grow it)

So, let’s pull back the curtain, get honest about the challenges, and set the stage for creative, sustainable success.

Giving Yourself Permission to Be (And to Rest!)

You have full permission to be, to take care of yourself, to rest, and to show up imperfectly. I recently recovered from weeks of illness, and I just want to remind you that your business can bend and flex with the seasons of your life.

This healthy shift means giving yourself breaks, learning to say “no,” and refusing to buy into the myth that you have to be hustling for validation 24/7. Let’s build businesses that fuel us, not exhaust us.

Is Imposter Syndrome Optional? Spoiler: Nope.

If you’ve ever felt like a fraud or worried you’re not ready (or good enough), you’re in big, beautiful company.

Some real talk from inside my Build It Remarkable group:

  • “I don’t know if I'm ready.”

  • “I don't think I'm worthy.”

  • “Why bother if someone else is doing it better?”

Sound familiar?

Let’s bust this myth wide open:

  • It’s a sign of humility and big-heartedness (not weakness or lack of ambition).

  • “I would be more concerned if you didn’t have imposter syndrome. Because if you didn’t, that’s maybe coming from a place of ego. I’d rather you come from a place of service.”

  • There are 8 billion people in the world. You only need a few hundred raving fans to build a thriving business.

The fact that someone else is doing what you dream of is proof there is a market for your voice and your way. Think: hundreds of bestselling books, movies, and restaurants, all thriving because of diversity, not in spite of it.

Building a Sustainable Creative Business

Are you tired of the “rat race” mentality? Me too. Here’s what truly works:

  • Prioritize non-negotiables: rest, family, art, and saying “no” more often.

  • Find your optimal pace; listen for when you need a break.

  • Focus your energy on ONE thing, not a dozen half-hearted projects.

"When we build in more space to take care of ourselves, create the non-negotiables, and also give ourselves permission to take a break when we need a break… the better our business does." — Kellee Wynne

You don’t need to do all the things. The “rule of one” is the foundation: solve one problem for one person with one solution on one platform. It leads to sustainable income and happiness.

The Secret Sauce: Your Email List

This can’t be said enough: your email list is your most powerful tool as a creative entrepreneur.

Why Is Your Email List So Important?
  • It’s the only platform you actually own.

  • Social media algorithms are unpredictable, your list is direct access.

  • The conversion rate from email is consistently higher than any other channel.

How Do You Grow Your Email List? Here Are 3 Proven Paths
  1. Bought Audience

    • Pay for ads or affiliates to attract new subscribers.

    • Getting started earlier with ads can be a shortcut to growth.

  2. Borrowed Audience

    • Collaborate! Join summits, guest on podcasts, partner for fests or features.

    • Community lifts everyone, your visibility grows as you contribute.

  3. Built Audience

    • Content marketing: Instagram, YouTube, blogs, podcasts, SEO.

    • Pick the platforms where your ideal audience already hangs out.

Making Community Your Superpower

Something pretty magical happens when you build your business in community. Inside The League and Build It Remarkable, I see it over and over:

  • Transformation is not an overnight process, it takes time and steady support.

  • Those who stick with a community for a year or more? They’re the ones who see true, lasting growth.

  • It’s not just about tools and training, it’s about encouragement, accountability, and honest conversations.

If you want to make 2025 different, more profitable, yes, but also more sustainable and more joyful, lean into these principles, and consider finding a community that lifts you up.
