Kellee Wynne:
Well, hello. Hello, my friends. Thank you so much for your patience. And for those of you who have been waiting, anticipating a new podcast episode, I am so glad you're still here. You're not going to believe this, but I have been sick for a very long time now because I've just been getting hit back to back with viruses. Covid and I was traveling and visiting my mom, and I came home and my lovely kids came, gave me this weird cough that I am now, in week four, finally recovering, and I just wasn't able to record anything. And that's just how life goes. What's nice is I'm in a phase now where I just give myself permission to be.
And the pressure of having to always be on and always be marketing and always be Kelly in the public eye, you know, after everything I've been through, it's a really healthy shift to be in. And so I'm here. I still love this podcast. In fact, I'm so excited about it and being able to show up for you that I've been working on some ideas. So basically, I'm thinking for a little while here I'm going to test out, going from nothing to going to two podcast episodes a week, because I really want to bring in more people to interview what makes them remarkable, what. What's going on with their art world and how they create and where their ideas come from and how they're putting it out into the world. There's so many stories I would love to just be able to talk to people about, and I think you would love it, too. So from an artist point of view, from a creative point of view, and even from a business point of view, what's happening out there with these really remarkable artists and makers.
You know, there's just so many people I would love to talk to. And so I'm going to start bringing on a lot more conversations with other people. But I don't want to give up the chance to have a conversation with you, teach you a few things, especially for the course creators and educators out there. I want to be able to bring you into my world. So what I'm thinking is these Friday episodes, just gonna call them work in progress, and you're gonna come in with me every Friday. I'm gonna give you a little behind the scenes of my life and my work. And then even more interesting is letting you be a little fly on the wall and share with you some conversations I'm having with the remarkable people who are in my programs. So from the league and from Build it remarkable from the coaching calls that I have, the things that we are discussing and the problems that we're having and the ways that we're solving it and the exciting insights, I feel like this is something that would be more relevant than me pulling out random how to lessons like really understanding what's going on and what people are working on.
So I love that. And what I'll do is also pull in a little insight for you, maybe something I'm pulling out of the back pocket, something for you to understand and chew on for the week. And I hope that this becomes an episode that you look forward to every Friday. A work in progress. Because that is what I believe we are. That's what I am immensely. Work in progress. You know, even though I've been here more than half a century, there's just still so much I don't know and don't understand.
One of my very favorite quotes is Shunryu Suzuki and he said, in the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's mind there are few. And I think that I've quoted that in almost everything that I've done for quite some time here because I love the idea of having a beginner's mind. I'm open and I hope that I inspire you to be open as well. So behind the scenes in my life right now, as I said, I've been having a fun time getting over being sick, which makes me even more grateful for healthy days. I have been just having some quiet days in the house, avoiding the heat and humidity here in Maryland. I've been spending time with my family and I did take a trip to California to see my mom and I love that because she's my best friend. You can go back into some previous conversations I've had a couple years ago.
I've traveled with her. I've really healed the relationship with her and it's grown and she's an amazing woman. So that was really fun because, you know, we just were able to go onto those deeper levels together. I also took some time out for nature and for making art. I took a class that was really exciting to be able to get back into making art. It is slow progress of finding my voice again, but I'm doing it and I'm doing it in a very special way, which is leaning on other people to teach me. I mean, it's so great to be the student again and just be inspired by others. So I think you're gonna see that especially on Instagram or even here on the podcast like how that's all unfolding.
I'm still an artist, even if I haven't made art for quite some time. And that's okay. If you've gone through it too, where you've had a hard time and you've kind of let it go, when you're ready, you can come back to art. It's okay. It doesn't always have to be a constant thing for you to still be a creative soul and an artist at heart. So. So that's why I just keep giving myself permission to be in the moment and to do what I'm doing. So, anything else to tell you? I participated this week in a really cool summit called Teacher Art.
It is passed now, but it really helped me connect with this community in a greater picture. I got to meet new people. It was wonderful working with Michelle from United Art Space, and I'm really grateful for the opportunity. So if you're new here because you found me through the summit, then welcome for all of you. I will be sharing what my lesson was about here in the coming weeks and months. I think that you've probably heard me talk about it. It's the rule of one. It's picking a niche.
It's getting focused on the thing that you do best and what lights you up and staying in your zone of genius. This is one of my favorite things to talk about. That's just how it goes. You know, I really believe in it because I've seen it. I've witnessed with the people that I've worked with that it works. And that's what's important. It's tried, tested, and true. So if you feel like you're overwhelmed and you're struggling, my advice is always to go back to the rule of one, which is to solve one problem for one person with one solution on one platform.
That means that you're not doing seven different streams of income and exhausting yourself. In fact, you can go to Kellywyn.com TPCC for my newly revamped and free offer called the Profitable Course Creator. And you're going to learn a lot more about why I believe the rule of one is the best way to build a business and make it sustainable. So let's move on to what I overheard in conversations with builders this week. And some of the conversations we have aren't actually about business tactics, because I feel like the program has become this holistic place where we really explore all the different angles of our life, of our creativity, and then how we're building the business so that it stays aligned with what we believe in and how we want to be, which has been my goal from the very beginning. And I'm seeing this super amazing transformation happen inside the league. We have really deep, soulful conversations. In fact, the last podcast episode I released was a conversation with the league.
I recommend going back and listening to it if you haven't heard it yet, because, oh, these women are dynamic. They're like people you want to be in a room with for sure. So that's why I'm giving you these conversations overheard. And I'm going to just tell you a few things that have happened over the last month. Since this is a new feature, there's always new conversations, but I want to be able to fill you a little backfill. One of the things that's come up is over and over again, and these are people, these women who have businesses, they run the programs for a long time now. And I'm on this in this group, too, of imposter syndrome. And I hear it quite often, too, from people who reach out to me and they're like, I don't know if I'm ready.
I don't think I'm worthy. I can't do it if other people are doing it, or why. What's the point when someone's doing it so much better? And we say this on the inside, too, in these conversations of, I'm just feeling like a fraud, an imposter, even. I feel that way on a regular basis. I think it's human nature to feel like what we're doing seems insignificant at times. But we continue the conversation inside our weekly zoom chats. And what we're realizing is, is there space for all of us? And this is something I love to say over and over again. There are 8 billion people in this world, and all you need is a few hundred to make a successful business.
It's mind blowing because we feel like we need to be able to reach everyone and compete with everyone, and yet the truth is we don't. I mean, we can think about a whole lot of other examples how similar businesses actually build each other up rather than tear each other down. And so one example I can give you is the restaurant industry. Restaurants do better when they're grouped together. When there's the restaurant row and you can just pick, what do I feel tonight? Italian, Mexican, Middle Eastern. You know, that's how they actually grow and do better. And I really believe that's the same with us. As we create art courses and workshops and memberships, we actually can build each other up.
So if someone else is doing what you dream of doing, that means there is a market for it. That means people want it. And another thing to put out is, like, how many bestseller books can there be? Only one ever on that subject, that theme? No. Hundreds, Thousands. Because when written beautifully and put out into this world and hopefully marketed really well, you could have hundreds of bestsellers in a year. There's no competition in how many can succeed. Same with movies. How many big movies or best shows.
Like, it's all about what the community or the people desire. And if there's 10 great movies to watch, 10 will be watched. If there's only one or two, then only one or two will be watched. And I want to kind of like, just infuse this in your head as you're sitting here. Who am I to do this? Is who are you to not do this? It's your voice, your take, your way of helping people, of encouraging people, of supporting. And honestly, as you've heard, some of the podcast episodes that I had this year, is about why it's important now more than ever. Why you showing up and putting your take on making art or making whatever it is that you're making, or helping people discover themselves through creativity again, why it's important that it's your voice. And I don't think imposter syndrome ever goes away for people who have big hearts and a bit of humility, because it's normal when you're, like, concerned, am I doing the right thing? Am I serving people the best.
I would be more concerned if you didn't have imposter syndrome. Because if you didn't have imposter syndrome, I would say that there's something a little. Yeah, that's maybe coming from a place of ego, and I'd rather you come from a place of service, but I don't want you to feel bad about yourself or stop yourself from fulfilling your dreams and serving others and helping others. Because what we're doing, yes, we're building businesses for ourselves. Yes, we are creating a whole new future forward and hopefully even wealth for ourselves and our family. But at the same time, we're also helping other people get what they want, what they dream of, which is learning to make art, learning to find themselves again, learning new skills, being in community, having a support system. What we're creating isn't nothing. It's not frivolous.
It's very important, especially in hard times. We need this respite from the world. And so I just want to encourage you to push through that Imposter syndrome, even when it's hard and keep showing up, keep moving one step at a time. It doesn't have to be a big leap. Maybe it's just a little nudge every week a little bit more. And I'm here to nudge you. That's what the podcast is about, is to keep you moving forward, to keep your creativity alive, to keep your dreams alive, to keep the goodness in your heart alive, and also to help you keep working towards your goals as an entrepreneur, a business person, as a creative who is now a course creator. Another conversation that we had that I can put into this overheard conversations with builders, is that we're working more at a sustainable pace rather than fighting in the rat race.
Because along with imposter syndrome, we also have these moments of just exhaustion or frustration or needing some time to ourselves. In all of my conversations on every zoom coaching call that I've been on, there's always this moment of sustainability, of feeling like we need a break or feeling like is it going to be too much work? And what I'm finding is that when we build in more space to take care of ourselves, create the non negotiables and also give ourselves permission to take a break when we need a break, to. To learn how to rest and learn how to say no, the better our business does. Especially when you just go all in on the one thing. You don't have a million different distractions. You just keep moving forward with your purpose. And so even though we've all had our ups and downs this year already, I see what's happening inside my builders community of slow and steady instead of a hard push and burnout. And I love that.
That's exactly what we should be doing. This is exactly how I've remodeled my entire business. The anxiety of have to do, have to do, have to do is finally something that I can put behind me for the most part, you know, and that's how I burnt out is just years of grinding and not realizing that that wasn't actually going to get me closer to my goals and same within the community. And the conversations we've had have been so deep and heartfelt and nurturing and really encouraging. When we have conversations about this and there's support, it's like these aha moments just go like fireworks in our mind going, oh, I'm not alone in this. Oh, this is how I can handle it. This is someone else's perspective of how they've handled it. And so those conversations help build each other up and give us the Tools that we need.
And so I'm passing that little insight to you to say, yeah, keep moving forward, find the balance between the two. Yeah. So that conversation was really fulfilling and that's why I wanted to bring it to you. And the third thing that we've talked about in every conversation for the last couple of months is this big aha, moment of growth comes with our list. It just comes back to the list. So the email list is like our gold standard inside the program? Yes. There's so many other pieces and parts to building a business, from our visibility on social media, to how we do a launch, to how we design a program, to how we care for our customers. All those are so important.
Both we ever want growth, if we want income, if we want to be able to help more people than. It just, it comes down to the email list. There's no ins and outs about it. And in order for the email list to grow, and I've tried to find so many ways around this, but the truth is you need visibility, and that means one of three things. So this is your back pocket insight for the week. Visibility or growth is going to happen from three places. I can narrow this down for just three ways in which you're going to grow. And that is a bot audience where you're paying for ads or you're paying affiliates to find your audience for you.
Any way that you can purchase that power is a bought way of growth to pay for your growth. And that's totally legitimate. In fact, I find that having waited so long to spend money on ads, I wish I had started it sooner because it is, quote, unquote, a shortcut or like the secret cheat code that we're all discovering, that the sooner you start on ads, the easier it is for you. The other way to grow, to have an audience, to be visible, is a borrowed audience, which means doing collaborations with other people, getting on podcasts, getting some PR in magazines on someone else's YouTube channel, or being interviewed for an article or someone else's blog post. It's the borrowed audience. And really one of the biggest ways that most of the people within my programs get that visibility from a borrowed audience is to participate in a collaboration, whether it's a summit or it's a fest or whatever you want to call it. There's so many beautiful online programs, collaborative ones, where you get many teachers, you've probably signed up for them. There's.
There's Wanderlust, there's like Drew Steinbrecher's summits. Francesca, who was in my program. She runs the Flowers Magic Fest every year. So these are collaborative programs where the community and the coming together means that we're sharing each other's information. And in community and in collaboration, I think is a really special way to find your audience and find growth. Because what it's doing is saying you will work well with others. You like to be part of the community, you like to extend your expertise with other people, and it gives you a bit of, I don't know, credibility. Now, sure, it takes a little while to work up to being able to pitch, to be in one of these collaborations, but for those of you who have been, you know that it's pretty helpful.
It's pretty fun. Fun. So that's it. Our. Our two. So far we've talked about paying for an audience. So bought, borrowed, and the last is pretty obvious it's built, which means putting content out there, whether the content is on social media, a blog, a podcast, YouTube, working on SEO, which is not quite as relevant as it used to be, but it's the work that you do to put content out there, really. And.
And still, I think the most helpful for at least the artists in my community, the two most important channels, I'd say, are still Instagram and YouTube. And so I know there's some other places that there's rising interest. And if you're into TikTok, great, but I don't find my customers on TikTok, so I'm not spending time there. I do think that there's a world opening up with substack. You know, there's places that you can still create content other than just Instagram and YouTube, but those still seems to be as much as we get frustrated and we're tired of the grind with them, and seems like Meta is taking over everything. And I'm not trying to be a downer, it just is what it is. But I'm still using it because it's still my best tool out there to connect with you. So consider those three places that you can work on to grow your audience.
And especially understanding that once you know who that audience is. And I have a whole framework for that called the Keystone Framework that you've probably heard about. And if you haven't, go again, I say go and take my free course, the profitable course creator, and you'll learn about the idea of really understanding what it is that you do, who it is you're doing it for, and how you're doing it, and also really what makes you different. It's the thing that people resist doing. But in the end, it's like your biggest hack code into messaging and success for marketing because you know who to talk to and how to talk to them. And once you understand all of that, you put that into play with one of those three ways of growing your audience, then it's gonna start working better for you. And all of that, the whole goal with all of that, I want to come back to the list. All of that visibility, all the ways in which you show up online every single time, your number one goal is to get them on your list and then serve them beautifully.
That's my back pocket insight for the week. I hope it's helpful and I just want to say thank you for being here. I hope that you like this new format. I'm kind of excited about where the year is going, which tells me I'm really finally on the other side of the burnout of and the struggle that I've had that I've talked about quite openly. But I just want to let you know, like there's a strength coming back and an excitement to serve. And I'm really looking forward to bringing new people into Build It Remarkable and giving them the tools they need to really push their course creator business forward. And I hope that maybe that's you. If you're listening and it's still July, then I encourage you to get on the wait list because going to be giving some bonuses to the people who are already there lined up waiting for me to open the doors.
So if that's you, if you're interested, please go to kellywyn.compriority and you're going to get priority access. The thing that's really exciting about what's happening with Build It Remarkable. Now after three years of running this program and having massive success with the people who take the program and we'll talk about that later. But I can give you some very exact stories and examples of how what I teach really works. But one thing that I've discovered about it is that this is not an overnight success. So many big marketing courses and I'm going to name them. You know, maybe you've heard of B School or the Digital Course Academy or Membership Experience or Business by Design or, you know, all of these other big courses that teach you how to run an online marketing type of business. I'm not saying any of them are bad or wrong.
I'm just saying that how I'm different from those is I've been in your shoes. I am an artist and I have built an incredibly profitable course business. In fact, I took Color Crush Creative from zero to a million in revenue in less than five years. And because of that, I had so many people asking me how I did it that I just knew that I could make a difference for them and their dreams and just something I'm incredibly passionate about. I just absolutely love putting creativity and business together and watching people's lives change. It's so amazing. These artists that come in, some who already have courses or course business, some who are starting from scratch and to watch them grow and succeed. But the thing that I've learned out of all of that is that it's not an overnight thing.
There are pieces that need to be put together and it takes time to build. And I really believe that you deserve the support to do that for more than just a few weeks or a couple of months. So I've redesigned Build It Remarkable to be a year long program. And if a year long sounds too much to you, don't worry right up front, I'm giving you all the tools. But throughout that time that we're together, you'll have consistent support from community, from me for coaching calls from additional training and information as things update and change in the marketing and in the whole business world. And I've watched that those who stick with me for more than a year, actually those who have stuck with me for two years are the ones that are the most successful. And I'm not saying it's just all me, I'm just saying it's with the intentionality and the accountability, something amazing happens and they go from struggling starving artist to profitable and proud of what they've been able to accomplish. And I want that for you as well.
So we've redesigned Build It Remarkable to be a year long coaching program. I would call it an affordable coaching program, to be honest. And I hope that this is something that's piquing your interest. I want to give you the tools. I can give you some through social media or through the podcast. But the real transformation happens when we are in community together and we have support. And I would love to be the one to give you that support. So if you go to kellywyn.com priority you'll get on the wait list and there's going to be all kinds of really cool things coming up in the next few weeks.
Like I would say over the next six or seven weeks, I'm going to have some events for you to participate in. And if you are on the priority list, there's also an opportunity for you to get a little extra bonus. So I know that maybe you don't want me pitching all the time on the podcast, but I have to tell you, that's what supports this whole business. The only way that I can keep showing up and provide the podcast and provide the community offers, the free offers, the advice that you need publicly is by continuing to run my business. And the truth is, is that's the sponsor of the Made remarkable podcast is Build It Remarkable, the program that I've designed just for you to be able to build your course creator business. So, all right, my friends, thank you so much for being here, for letting me speak my mind for, you know, maybe rambling, maybe a little soapboxing at times. I'm okay with that if you're okay with that, because I just want to be able to pour into you some beautiful advice. And every Friday, I hope you'll come and join me for work in progress.
Basically, it's the work that's in progress right now within myself and within the community, with the builders that are part of my program and give you a few insights every week. So I'll check back with you next Friday and also check sometime midweek. I'm going to be dropping another remarkable podcast interview roundtable with the OG League, that's what I call them, with Kat and Drew and Robin Marie. I think that that will be really helpful to you. All right, have a beautiful weekend and I'll talk to you soon.
